2013 Saucon Valley History Day
On Saturday, April 27, under a beautiful sunny sky, the Historical Society held various events in conjunction with Saucon Valley History Day at the Grist Mill complex. While the temperature was a bit chilly in the morning, the participants and the weather eventually warmed to an exciting series of fun, education, entertainment and food.
A Craft Show and Yard Sale each began the day at 8AM greeting shoppers looking for those special items and bargains. Inside the kids’ tent there were fun activities such as face-painting, games, crafts, balloons and a visit from “K the Clown”! Another tent was set-up as a Historical Baby Photo Contest where guests could vote for their favorite baby photo of Hellertown Seniors, Business Folks and Community Leaders. A visit to the HHS tent invited guests to browse the Westerwald Pottery, autographed Joe Sofka Grist Mill prints and other unique gifts. The Miller House porch was adorned with Food Stations featuring none other than the Historical Society’s world-famous grilled hot dogs with all the toppings and select beverages, baked goods and ice cream treats from our refurbished antique ice cream cart! The other side of the Miller House porch was turned into a makeshift stage where live musical performances entertained many guests sitting on lawn chairs and blankets.
Local Hellertown Business Members and Members from the Greater Lehigh Valley Chamber of Commerce provided information booths in the Historical Society’s parking lot.
Other local Historical Organizations were also participating in this day of celebrating our local History. Many of the participants walking the Saucon Rail-Trail traveled from one event to the next, stopping to take part in this fun-filled extravaganza at each location.
The Hellertown Historical Society wishes to thank Jan Doddy of Doddy Photography for the splendid photos of this day’s events.
